I need an adult supervisor to explain to me what happened yesterday to the Forum? It freaked me out!

This is Joy, as I see I'm "unregistered" again. Along with this I'm only seeing the first module of discussions, not the usual full list.

Was this somehow connected to the turnover of the Internet? That is how it looked to me! All of a sudden I found myself in a prison camp, shouting down empty hallways only to be answered by some weirdo. From the choice of music, I'd have to guess that it was Towlie playing with me.

I just want my normal board back. AND if something major goes wrong, could clif at least post a notice on his site so we have an idea of what's going on?

Do I have to re-register to get my full board back? Make my world normal again, please. As if...... great, no emoticons either .......

Joy, you got logged out and your "Remember me" got reset during the upgrade. You'll need to log back in here... http://webbotforum.com/login.php?do=login

If you remember your password give it a try. If not, look in your email as I sent you a password reset email about an hour ago.(you can also click the "Forgot password?" link on the log in page.

I'm all back now! I have an IP addy that I wrote in password book for the Forum.....but I'm sure which incarnation of the Forum. Is there some other place to go if the site is down? Could clif be induced put a small notice on his site if we go down? With every thing else that was going on yesterday, I was sure the the digital "iron gate" had come down and we were all cut off! :faint:

And we haven't really had the first taste of the :shtf: yet! I dunno, Mildred. I'm not sure I can handle the anxiety. Maybe I should just take a journey through my "innards" and find that button.....then burn it out! :rambo::dance:

Joy,

you raise an interesting premise that I gave a bit of thought to yesterday.

Being that the internet was handed over to ICANN and the fact that they can take down any URL they deem. I wonder if it might be advisable to obtain a secondary url, something innocuous and mirror this site there. Or, just obtain the URL and if/when something happens, we can just upload the database to the new URL.

Thoughts, anyone?

There's always the Time Monk Radio forums....

Would be a logical place to gather if this site should be down for whatever reason. However if it's a hostile takedown then Time Monk Radio probably got taken out first. attachment.php?attachmentid=4446&d=1325553450

Hi, this is cowpoke, I got dumped from the site. Last time I was on I got the prompt saying it had been six months since I had changed passwords and I needed to do another password, so I did one, and it doesn't work to get me back in, neither does the old password. I don't know whose idea it was to make a six month password change mandatory, but it may have something to do with the member drain.

Same thing happened to me on several occasions. To this day I can not login from the little login in the upper right corner -- it ALWAYS fails. I have to login, let it fail, and then login from the failure screen. That seems to work okay.

It's a built in function in the software for security reasons. It has always been that way, though it seems to only work sporadically. I'm Sorry.

I don't understand why that would happen isis, but the best way to get in is to book mark(favorite) this link for the forum. http://webbotforum.com/login.php?do=login

it will save you those extra steps logging in.

I see how to quote someone's post in my reply. But what if it's a long post and I only want to quote part of it? I tried to go into the quote and delete part of it but that doesn't seem to work. Suggestions? Thanks, Marti

Suggestions? Thanks, Marti

It should work Marti. Once you click "Reply With Quote" and the input box comes up with the quoted post in between [ QUOTE ]Quoted post here.... [ /QUOTE] you should be able to delete any/all/part of what is in between the

tags to leave only the part that you want to show. Like I did here.

That process will work, just be sure not to delete the bracket [ and the word QUOTE and the end bracket ] Also make sure you don't delete the end bracket [ slash / QUOTE and the end bracket] .

Alternatively, you can just type in bracket QUOTE bracket - insert your intended part - then type bracket /QUOTE end bracket.

Note that in Neo's example he put in spaces so you could see the command as in [ QUOTE], in real life you leave out the space and it becomes a command.

LOL I see that happen from time to time. I've even done it a few times. Sometimes I will edit and fix it for the Member. ;)

Okay, I deleted part of Peter's quote - is this correct?

Generally, when quoting a portion of another's post, I believe it is proper etiquette to place "..." where text was removed (before or after the saved quoted material) so the reader knows, there is more there. To answer your question directly, yes, you formatted it properly.

Thanks, Foxx, for the reminder on proper etiquette. I did think about that when I was replying but got lazy!

This morning when I went to log in I got a page that said something like "it's been 180 days since you changed your password and you must do it now. You can do it from this page." Except that there was no way to do it on that page and it wouldn't let me go anywhere else because I hadn't changed my password. I did manage to trick it into letting me send a message to the administrators but I never got a response. So, I finally registered as a new user so I could get this far.

Can one of you administrators straighten this out? Why have the software do such a stupid thing, anyway?
